Syrah Alondra de los Prados

Alondra de los Prados is a one acre vineyard co-planted to Syrah,
interspersed with Viognier vines, and farmed to perfection by our
good friend Tom Krig. We do two picks: The first pick,
before the sun was rising, was a cold morning complete with a
harpist, swirling fog, Champagne and breakfast burritos. The
second pick, to get some riper fruit, was a week later. We
co-ferment the Viognier with the Syrah. The Viognier adds a
special lift to the wine. There is an almost paradoxical
combination of meat aromas and floral aromas surrounded by wood
flavors, mushrooms, liquorices (red and black), and cola
flavors. The wine is aged 20 months in Ermitage and
Franoise Frres French oak barrels.
